blinded by science

Cool expensive urban transportation tech in the background - better urban transport tech in the foreground.

Looks like Yokohama is getting ready to roll out it`s new e-car car-share system, "Choi-Mobi". Wouldn`t expanding and improving the existing BayBike bicycle share system be less costly and even more eco-friendly? How about encouraging cycling (and discouraging driving) by building some dedicated bicycle lanes?

  1. I don't know about beling blinded by science, as the science seems pretty clear that electric cars will be short lived as a transport solution (and will need more electrical power than Japan can afford). Perhaps blinded by hype? or blinded by the lobbying presence of several of the world's largest car companies...

  2. It seems to me that, here in Japan, terms like "eco" and "green" this and that, are, sadly, only slogans used to sell more things and make more money. There is no ernestness nor desire on the part of city leaders to make the changes needed. There needs to be a complete change in mindset that would allow them to see that sometimes an idea can have value even if it doesn`t make money or add to GDP.
